Digital Advertising Screens

The moment your screens carry somebody else's message for money, they stop being signage and become media. That changes what you have to be able to prove: not just that the campaign ran, but where, when, how often, and for how long.

Sell

Proof is the product

An advertiser is buying exposure they cannot personally verify. What makes the sale repeatable is the record: a proof-of-play report showing each spot, on which screen, at what time, with the screen confirmed online at that moment. Without it you are asking someone to take your word for it, and you will be renegotiating every renewal.

This is also where most in-house retail media efforts quietly stall. Selling the first campaign is easy. Reporting on it in a form a media buyer accepts, month after month, is the part that needs the platform configured properly from the start.

What a screen media network needs

Inventory you can describe

Screens grouped into sellable packages by site, format and location, with a loop length and a spot duration that are actually fixed.

Share of voice

A defined number of spots in a defined loop, so you are selling something specific rather than "we will put it on".

Proof of play

Per-spot playback records tied to screen uptime, exportable, for the period the advertiser is paying for.

Campaign scheduling

Start and end dates, dayparts, site groups and frequency handled by the platform rather than by someone remembering.

Creative control

Specifications and an approval step, so third-party artwork cannot arrive at the wrong size or say something you did not agree to.

Audience context

Honest, aggregate context about the environment and traffic. Never facial recognition and never identifying an individual.

Where we draw the line on measurement

There is technology that will tell you the estimated age and gender of everyone who looked at a screen. We do not deploy it. It processes images of people who never agreed to it, the accuracy claims are generous, and the reputational risk of being the retailer who was scanning faces is out of all proportion to the value of the data.

What we will do is anonymous, aggregate measurement where it is lawful and proportionate, and honest environment data: this screen is here, this many people pass it, this is the dwell time. That is enough to sell against, and it is defensible if a customer asks what you are collecting.

Questions people actually ask

Can we make money from our existing screens?

Sometimes, but be careful what it costs you. Selling space on the screens above your own counters means less time for your own promotions, and the revenue rarely matches the margin on the products you stopped advertising. It works best in high-traffic sites where you have more screen time than you have things to say. We will model that with you honestly rather than just enabling it.

What reporting do advertisers actually ask for?

Proof of play by spot and by screen, screen uptime for the period, and the site list with formats. Anything beyond that varies by buyer. The important thing is that the record is generated by the platform automatically rather than assembled by hand, because a report someone compiles manually stops being produced by month four.

Do we need different content for advertising than for our own promotions?

Yes. Third-party creative arrives in whatever size the agency had, and it usually needs remastering for your canvas and your loop. We set the specification, check what arrives against it, and adapt where the advertiser cannot. That step is what stops a network looking like a noticeboard.
