Almost every disappointing LED installation is a specification failure, not a product failure. The wrong pixel pitch for the viewing distance, or a canvas nobody ever produced content for. Both are decided before anything is ordered, and both are avoidable.
Pixel pitch is the distance in millimetres between the centres of two adjacent LEDs. The smaller the number, the finer the image and the higher the cost per square metre. It is not a quality ranking, it is a distance decision, and buying a finer pitch than the room needs is simply spending money nobody will ever see.
The rough working rule is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pitch in millimetres. A 2.5mm pitch reads cleanly from about two and a half metres. For a reception where people stand at the desk, that matters. For a wall across a warehouse, a 10mm pitch is the correct answer and a 2.5mm one is a waste.
Where each kind of LED belongs
Fine-pitch indoor
Reception, boardrooms, control rooms and showrooms, where people stand within a few metres. Typically under 2.5mm. This is the most expensive per square metre and the most often over-specified.
Standard indoor
Retail, atriums, event spaces and larger rooms where the closest viewer is several metres away. The right balance for most feature walls.
High-bright and window
Displays facing daylight, behind glass or into direct sun. Brightness and thermal management matter more than pitch, and an ordinary screen will wash out and then cook.
Outdoor
Weather-rated cabinets for forecourts, facades and roadside. Consent, structure, power and light-spill rules all apply before the technology does.
What we check before quoting an LED wall
The closest and furthest a person will realistically stand, measured on site
Ambient light through the day, including where the sun actually lands
The structure, the fixings and whether an engineer needs to sign it off
Power available, and the heat the installation will add to the room
Service access — front or rear, and whether a module can be changed without scaffolding
Who is producing content at the canvas resolution, and whether that has been budgeted
Questions people actually ask
What does an LED wall cost?
LED is priced per square metre and the pitch drives it, so the same physical size can differ several times over depending on how fine the pixel pitch is. Structure, processing, installation and content are separate again. We quote them as separate lines, because the single biggest saving available to most customers is choosing a coarser pitch that nobody will be close enough to notice.
Can we put an LED screen in a shop window?
Yes, and it is one of the most effective places for one, but it has to be specified for it. A window display faces daylight, so it needs high brightness and proper heat management, and it is also a light source pointed at the street, which means it needs to dim automatically at night. A standard indoor screen in a sunny window will look washed out by day and be a nuisance after dark.
Do LED screens need a lot of maintenance?
Less than people expect, but not none. Modules occasionally fail and are swapped individually, brightness drifts slowly over years, and the processing and player need updates like any other computer. The thing that actually needs attention is the content. We cover the hardware under a managed agreement and plan spares up front, because a failed module with a twelve-week lead time is a visible hole in your brand.
